Dear City SC Families,
As you may be aware, US Club Soccer (US Club) and US Youth Soccer (USYS) recently announced a nationwide change to the age group registration format for their member clubs and leagues. Effective with the upcoming 2026/2027 season, age group cut-offs will change from January 1 to December 31 to August 1 to July 31. This change aims to increase participation in younger age groups and keep more kids engaged in the game as they progress. The shift aligns better with school calendars, allowing players to play with peers in their grade level and supporting their social needs. This change will impact all of our Utah League teams and all of our ECNL RL, DPL, EA, and MLS Next Academy teams. The Club is diligently preparing for this change to ensure a smooth transition for all players and coaches.
Here are some steps City SC is taking:
– We are conducting an internal audit of all rosters to confirm which age group each player will fall into next year.
– We will host a series of in-house age group training sessions with the new age groups to help players and coaches get familiar with the new player pools.
– Players will have ample opportunities to train and be evaluated within their new age groups before tryouts.
As always, our goal is to form the most competitive teams at every age group based on the respective player pool. We’ll place players on the teams that best fit their skill level and individual player development needs.
Important Details:
– We’re working to finalize coaching assignments ahead of our typical timeline. Coaching assignments for all age groups will be posted as soon as they are finalized, before tryouts.
