Per our mission to ignite a lifelong passion for the game in every player, City SC Utah makes a commitment to you that we will work hard to provide a fun, educational, and safe environment in which your child can improve their soccer skills and learn life lessons. We will treat you with respect in our words and actions and expect the same courtesy in return. As players and parents in our program, we believe in you, we want the best for you and we expect the best from you.
Basic Guidelines for Parents to Set Your Child up for a Positive Experience
- Be their parent and their support system, not another coach. Provide unconditional support regardless of the game’s outcome and the team’s performance.
- Make attendance at games and practices a priority. Ensure that your child arrives to practices and games on time. Be creative with scheduling appointments, tutoring, and additional extra-curricular activities to avoid conflicts with soccer.
- Remain seated in the designated spectator area during games and practices.
- Do not interfere with your child’s coach during games and practices, except to draw attention to an urgent safety issue.
- Do not yell instructions or criticism to any player.
- Make no derogatory comments to players, other parents, fans, coaches or officials.
- Remain positive about your player, the team and the club and encourage a “Growth Mindset” from your player.
Basic Expectations for The City SC Utah Parent
- Let the coaches coach. No coaching from the sidelines. Do not instruct or berate your child or anyone else’s child at any time during games or practices. Anything you say should be positive and non-instructional.
- RESPECT Referees, opponents, coaches, players. We expect City SC Utah parents to do their part to de-escalate tense situations on the field by remaining in control of your own actions, words and emotions.
- Enjoy the Process. Trust in the individual player development process and timeline. Understand that success doesn’t come overnight.
- Represent the club well in the community. By enrolling your player in our program, as a parent you are also making a commitment to the program and are expected to represent the club in a positive light off the field.
- Follow proper club communication protocol. Should you have a complaint, please address it through the appropriate channels as outlined in the Parent Handbook, starting with your coach and always respecting the 24 hour rule.
- Adhere to the standards set forth and agree to in City SC Utah Parent/Player Code of Conduct.
Topics that we encourage you to discuss with your child’s coach:
- Ways to help your player improve
- Short and long term goals for your player
- Club philosophy and player pathway
- Your player’s mental, physical and emotional well being
Topics that we ask you to refrain from discussing with your child’s coach:
- Team tactics and strategy
- Any player that is not your own child
Playing time is not guaranteed at MLSNEXTII/ECNLRL/UYSA levels and is allocated at the coach’s discretion based on the demands of each match.
Regardless of level of play, Missed practices and disruptive behavior are grounds for less than mandated play time.
